The Golden West College Theater Arts department’s production of Sister Act, thefeel-good musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film, is set to open on Friday November 9.  Performance dates are November 9 – 18 in the Golden West College Mainstage Theater.  Tickets are on sale now through the GWC Theater Arts department website at www.gwctheater.com or through the GWC box office at 714-895-8150.  All performances are accompanied by a live orchestra

Director/choreographer Martie Ramm and musical director Rick Heckman have assembled an outstanding cast to star in their upcoming production written by Tony and Academy Award winner Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors).

Imani Haze stars as disco diva Deloris Van Cartier with Megan Cherry as Mother Superior.  Also featured are Sharon Rae Massey as Sister Mary Patrick, Ally Teeples as Sister Mary Robert, Sarah Cabrera as Sister Mary Lazarus, Mark Torres as Curtis, Marcus Veyette as Eddie and Jay Harbison as the Monsignor.  These outstanding talents lead a cast of 20.

Sister Act is the story of Deloris Van Cartier, who witnesses a murder and is then put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be a found: a convent!  Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and the uptight Mother Superior.  Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community.  Sister Act is filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story. This musical is a sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship.

The Sunday November 11 matinee performance will be followed by a discussion of the musical with the director, actors, designers and special guests. All audience members are encouraged to attend.

The Thursday, November 15 performance will be ASL interpreted. Interested ticket buyers need to contact the box office by phone (714-895-8150) to request locations in the appropriate seating area.
