Mainstage Theater

By John Logan
Directed by Tom Amen
October 6-15, 2017

The 1924 abduction and brutal thrill-killing of a 14-year-old boy by a duo of wealthy college students comes to life in John Logan’s chilling examination of the impulses that drove Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb to commit what the Chicago Tribune dubbed “The Crime of the Century!”

In this riveting docudrama, Logan delves into the complex, master-slave relationship between Leopold and Loeb; two self-described “Nietzschean Supermen” of superior intellect who are nonetheless driven by dark, romantic passions and impulses that they find simply irresistible! Based upon actual police records, court documents, and newspaper headlines from the murder investigation and trial, Never the Sinner is a startling, provocative love story set against a backdrop of crime, punishment, and the notorious excess of the Jazz Age!

NOTE: This production contains adult language and situations, and is intended for mature audiences.

By William Shakespeare
Directed by Martie Ramm
November 10-19, 2017

In a mix of witchcraft, prophecy and murder, Macbeth by William Shakespeare dramatizes the damaging effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake. Macbeth explores the ideals of strength and courage and the relationship between gender and dominance in a tragedy filled with action and adventure. Consumed by youthful desire, we are left to wonder whose ambition is the driving force of the play—Macbeth’s, Lady Macbeth’s or both? Macbeth remains the most mysterious and unforgettable of Shakespeare’s plays.

By Jim Leonard, Jr.
Directed by Tom Amen
February 16 – 25, 2018

This deeply moving American drama explores the unlikely friendship between a disturbed young man and a disenchanted preacher. Set in rural Indiana during the height of the Great Depression, the play is a story of friendship, family, and community, told in a spare, yet hauntingly poetic voice that speaks to the heart. As playwright Jim Leonard Jr. puts it, “These are good and simple people, they have only the best of intentions.” Don’t miss this beautiful play!

Lyrics by Tim Rice, Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Directed and Choreographed by Martie Ramm
April 27 – May 6, 2018

She was a starlet at twenty-two, the president’s mistress at twenty-four, First Lady at twenty-seven, and dead at age thirty-three. Driven by ambition and blessed with charisma, Eva Peron was a saint to the working-class yet reviled by the aristocracy and mistrusted by the military. She was destined to leave a beguiling political legacy unique in the 20th century. Argentina’s controversial First Lady is the subject of this dynamic Tony Award winning musical masterpiece by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. Told through a compelling musical score with exuberant Latin, pop and jazz influences, EVITA creates a fascinating theatrical portrait as complex as the woman herself.
